Brittney Spencer
My Stupid Life

Release Date: 19 January 2024
Genre: Americana / Country

Brittney Spencer has released her much-anticipated debut album, My Stupid Life, but her life is anything but stupid. The opening track alone, “Bigger Than The Song,” really demonstrates Spencer’s extraordinary ability to navigate the outskirts of musical genres, delivering raw and authentic songwriting filtered through her unbridled spirit. The album features an impressive lineup of guests, including Grace Potter, Maren Morris, Abbey Cone, and Sarah Buxton. Jason Isbell’s guitar contributions add an extra layer of musical finesse to the mix. A Baltimore native known for her free spirit, Spencer effortlessly translates life, truth, and wild imagination into her songs.

The 13 tracks on the album are a personal reflection of Spencer’s journey through the labyrinth of Music City, Nashville, where she planted her roots a decade ago. My Stupid Life captures the highs and lows of her experiences, a story in songs woven with threads of self-discovery. Recorded at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio in Nashville, most of the album bears the stamp of Grammy award-winning producer Daniel Tashian, known for his work with Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Town, and Brett Eldredge. Two tracks though, “Bigger Than The Song” and “New To This Town,” were produced by Marcus “Marc Lo” Lomax and Romil Hemnani, respectively.

In a reflective moment, Spencer shares, “This feels like a long time coming. It took me three years from the release of my first EP, Compassion, to bring forth my debut album. These songs are my introduction to country music, and I wanted to give them the time and care they, and my fans, deserve.” The album, a deep dive into Spencer’s psyche, unfolds with authenticity and self-exploration. Spencer adds, “Through making this album, I’ve learned we’re not alone in our heads, and I hope this album hugs the tiny, loud parts of our overthinking brains that sometimes need it most.”
